This last week has been pretty busy for our U15's but after starting a little disappointingly they finished on a high. Sunday saw the U15's in their first game in the stadium in a friendly against Sun Postal a top Hertfordshire EJA team. After starting brightly we came in half time 0-0 having missed 2 or 3 golden opportunity to take the lead and after enjoying most of the possession. We started the second half well and after having an early chance cleared off the line we took the lead we some great link up play and a great finish from Matt Tapely. Unfortunately it didn't last long with Sun Postal equalizing almost immediately which deflated us a bit given Sun Postal the momentum to go on and eventually win 4-1. Thursday game against Redbridge the London EJA runners up last season was much more productive with Basildon's U15's running away with a convincing 5-0 victory. Starting with a great header from James Shadwell followed up with a couple of stunning long range efforts from Bobby Jones and Matt Tapley. Then Matt Buckley finished off a great passing move before Reece Brown followed up on a great solo effort from Andy George to wrap things up. Then Sunday to cap the week off and put a real spring in their step for the start of the season the U15's won the Essex Royals with a fantasic extra time win over another London EJA team Ilford. After winning the group stage with wins over Wickford Town, LTD Vipers and a draw with Ilford they were up against Collier Row in the Semi Final. After a slow start we eventually got going and with 2 well worked goals run out easy winners to meet Iford in the final. The final was a great game, tight and with both teams going close but failing to score after some great goal keeping displays the final went to extra time. The match had penalties all over it but with a couple of minutes to go Matt Tapley put a fantastic ball through to Ben Mathews who after his second attempt managed to smash the ball into the roof of the net with his first goal for the club and a great win for the under 15's.
Why not see how they get on this Sunday with a cracking double header in-store down at the Hive with the U15's taking on Romford in their first league game of the season - 12pm KO - closely followed by the U16's - 2pm KO - who start the season off with a mouth watering tie against East Thurrock. Joe Bullman Under 15's Manager.
